The Global nutrition report, published by the International Food Policy Research Institute, addresses the issue of global malnutrition. It aims to track progress in improving nutrition and, at the same time, identifies actions to accelerate progress and strengthen accountability. In the first two months since its publication last November, it had been downloaded over 40,000 times. Many people working in the field tell me it is sparking new ways of thinking about nutrition, feeding into plans, strategies and decisions, and adding support to evidence-based campaigns.
But what about the research community? Why should they pay any attention to the report? After all, it presents no new research, just a different way of combining data and highlighting new ideas.
