Uganda: Rugunda, Aronda Differ On Police

In Parliament last week, opinion was divided between Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda and Gen Aronda Nyakairima, the minister for Internal Affairs, on police's perceived use of excessive force in breaking up demonstrations in the city.

Nyakairima told MPs on the internal affairs committee that police officers who arrested NRM youths outside the US embassy on March 23 will face disciplinary action if it is found they used excessive force.
