Ethiopia: Views On Democratisation

Democratization is not an overnight process. Let alone in a country like Ethiopia where totalitarianism dominated the political scene of the country for centuries, democracy is still unfledged in many developed countries," says Dr. Haile-Michael Abera, Ethiopian Civil Service University President.

He said democracy should not be reserved for elites or some groups rather it should be the issue of the majority. "In our country 80 percent of the population live in rural area. Any democratization efforts should take into account this. People from rural and urban areas should take part in the socio-economic and political affairs of the country as every decision at the centre affect the life of all.
