Whichever way the presidential election goes, the poll should be a reminder of how strongly the citizens feel about the Nigerian project, even if they sometimes disagree. In Nigeria, going to church or mosque is a short cut to understanding the national pulse. Nigerians love prayer and committing things to God's hands. And for the last three months, since the Independent National Electoral Commission officially lifted the ban on campaigns for the presidential and the National Assembly elections in January, Nigerians have been praying fervently concerning the general election. In fact, most ordinary Nigerians have spent more time praying about the elections than they did physically preparing for the polls.
