Liberia Tightlipped Over Location of Girls From Lebanon Captivity

About four years ago, a group of Liberian women were lured into leaving their home country for Lebanon with a promise of jobs and a better standard of living, but things turned out for the worse as they were accordingly abused, used against their will to work without pay and subjected to other forms of inhumane treatment.

Following months of appeals, some of their colleagues died from the ill-treatment and the Government of Liberia decided to act in getting freedom for the women. A team comprising officials from the Liberian National Police, Ministry of Labour and others were dispatched to Lebanon to secure the release and subsequent repatriation of the women.
