Nigeria: Under Heavy Security Cover, Maiduguri Witnesses Massive Voter Turnout

Maiduguri — The residents of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, under heavy security cover, turned out massively to cast their votes in Saturday's presidential and national assembly elections. This is in addition to the fact that voters from the 16 out of 27 local government areas (LGAs) cast their votes in about 15 internally displaced persons (IDPs) camps located across the state capital, including the one housing those from Gamboru, Ngala and Kukawa.

Speaking on the IDPs, the Director of Borno State Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Geram Terab, opposed the demand for the displaced persons to go back to their liberated communities, citing some existing security threats.
