Blog

24 February 2015

I started the day by cleaning the mess room. After cleaning I went to the deck to clean the grease from the sail winches. I sealed some open tubes at the bow with denzo tape. We then had lunch then after we launched the both of the fast rescue boats for another drive training session. This time Angelo was preparing us to get accuracy with the pilot door. Since everyone was wet we had a half day and everyone had shower. I took a nap after shower and had dinner when I wake up. After dinner I was still tired I went straight to bed.

Today I cleaned the toilets, stairways and fare ways. We had tea break and during the break we were told by chief we will have a MOB (man over board) procedure. Due to strong winds the drill was called off. At 15h: 00pm we had a CPR and a smoke sensor test in the bridge by Catarina. We prepared for dinner after the test and we all went to bed excited that tomorrow we will arrive in Durban.

We arrived in Durban at 09h: 00pm and by 12h: 00pm we were safely moored by the quay side. We then took stores and provisions and after we had lunch and relaxed. At 17h: 00pm we were ready for a tour around Durban arranged by the director of Greenpeace Kumi Naidoo. He took us to the Indian graveyard and showed us the grave of Lenny. ANC activist who died during the struggle and a close friend of Kumi during those days. He later took us to his home where he lived as a child and gave us a brief history of himself during the apartheid era and as an ANC activist. We then had dinner at Chatsworth Vslots club operated by bike revolutionaries which are close friends of Kumi. We went back to the ship after a night of fun in the club and called it a day.
