Gambia: Minister Jarjue Urges CRR Communities Not to Cut Trees for Farming

The minister of Environment, Climate Change, Water Resources and Parks and Wildlife, Pa Ousman Jarjue, has urged farmers not to cut trees for farming warning that that will drastically reduce the amount of rainfall.

Accompanying the secretary general, head of Civil Service and minister of Presidential Affairs, and also responsible for Fisheries, Lamin Nyabally, in his visit to the Vision 2016 farms in the country, Minister Jarjue on Sunday during a meeting with farmers at the governor's Bantaba, described trees as very important and that the constant cutting of trees can result to water and wind erosion. He pointed out that water is important for cultivation; be it rainwater or fresh water and that it should be properly utilised.
