Namibia: Monthly Inflation Picks Up As Annual Inflation Slows Down

Increases in food prices pushed up the monthly inflation in March, but the overall annual inflation remained on its downward trajectory to 3.4 percent from 3.6 percent in February. According to the Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) consumer price index (CPI) there was an increase in the price of food, as well as in goods and services, which led to a 0.4 percent increase in the monthly inflation rate.

Nevertheless the decrease in transport inflation, from minus 2.6 percent in February to minus 3.7 percent in March, led to the drop in annual inflation. Transport inflation was at 7.4 percent in the same period last year. Annual inflation has been on a decrease since July 2014.
