The Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council said there will be various programmes taking place at every mosque in the country during Friday prayers, in light of the killing of innocent Ethiopians in the hands of ISIS. The Council in its statement indicated that it vehemently condemns the inhumane act of ISIS, as the act is in polar opposition to the ideals of peace, tolerance, respect for Islam and has no religious basis in any way.
Delivering the statement, Council President Sheikh Mohammed Amin Jemal said that Ethiopia for long has been a country where various religions coexisted with respect and tolerance, while serving as a benchmark of peace and tolerance for the rest of the world. "As our country's citizens have for long coexisted with respect and tolerance, I would like to point out that any act that disturbs such harmony is not acceptable by Islam, and extremism should not be associated with Islam", he added.
