Tunisia: Global Forum On Modern Direct Democracy Kicks Off in Tunis

Tunis — Prime Minister Habib Essid said Tunisia is experiencing a pivotal period of its history; it has been able to establish the first democracy in the Arab region.

Speaking, Thursday, at the opening of the Global Forum on Modern Direct Democracy, Essid noted that Tunisia's new constitution contains in its chapter on local authorities issues closely tied to the principles of human rights, democratic conventions and good governance, such as participatory democracy and proximity policy.
