Liberia: PYJ Camp Cautions CDC, Weah As Rainbow Coalition Cracks

Ahead of 2017 general and presidential elections in Liberia, the first attempt at forming an opposition bloc appears to be a bust, signaling that the road to the presidency may be a bit muddy for what many political observers say could be a disjointed opposition looking to sweep power from the ruling Unity Party government.

With months to polling, in an election with more variables pointing in the favor of opposition, especially with President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf whose popularity propelled the Unity party to two successive victories out of the game on constitutionality grounds, it has been predicted that a unified opposition bloc could be the best option to take over from the ruling Unity party which will be completing a long 12 years at the helm of power. Politics over the years in the country has proven that the opposition is very much fragmented with varying political interest as nearly all candidates seek to become president instead of forming collaborations to oust the incumbent.
