Sierra Leone: Fisheries Ministry Augments Support to Aquaculture Development

In a bid to develop aquaculture in Sierra Leone, the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources is currently supporting the construction of 12,400m2 fish ponds at four sites in Koinadugu and Kono districts, for the use of mined out pools.

Speaking in Parliament last week, Minister of Fisheries, Captain Momodu Alieu Pat-Sowe, said the ministry had supervised the construction of five ponds in Jimmy Bagbo in the Bo District through the Welt Hunger project, and collaborated with the diversified food production project of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security to identify suitable fishing farm sites in the Bombali and Koinadugu districts.
