Revelations by the Mail and Guardian shed new light on the atmosphere of fear which still grips the Rainbow Nation months after the xenophobic attacks on foreigners across the country. According to the paper, a businessman in Marathon, Germinston who has taken the protection of migrants into his hands can't go public with his work. Germiston is the seat of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality which includes much of the East Rand, in Greater Johannesburg. The tycoon told the Mail and Guardian, that he saved the lives of several immigrants who came under attack by squads operating in slums where there were electricity blackouts. The newspapers say they were forced to hide the man's face and change his name to protect his identity.
