The United Nations Refugee Agency budget has said it needs about $174.5 million (N34.725 billion) to cater for the needs of the 1.49 million internally displaced people (IDPs) in Nigeria. The agency's regional representative for Africa, Liz Ahua, who is on a working visit to the affected states in northeast Nigeria noted that the fund includes an additional $97.5 million (N19,4 billion) for the agency's rare involvement with IDPs instead of refugees.
According to UNHCR, the immediate priorities for Nigeria are to protect and assist most vulnerable groups among the IDPs and host communities
