Tunisia: 23 Sentenced to 14 Years in Prison Over Shiite Killings

Cairo — An Egyptian criminal court sentenced 23 people to 14 years in prison on charges of killing Shiia leader Hassan Shehata and three other members of the Shiite Muslim community in June 2013, officials said.

The four were beaten to death west of Cairo, when a crowd of angry villagers, surrounded the house of Shehata, threatening to set it on fire if the men inside did not leave the village before the end of the day. When they refused, villagers attacked them, dragged them along the ground, and partially burned the house, the officials added.
