Liberia: Prosecuting Rape Cases - SGBV Prosecutor Wins Key Case

Monrovia — Cllr. Deddeh Jomah Wilson Acting chief sexual Gender Base Violence prosecutor says the government of Liberia has won a statutory rape case between the Republic of Liberia and one Samson Elder. According to Cllr. Wilson the case between the defendant and the government of Liberia occurred in September 2012 and prosecution into the case started two months ago with a unanimous verdict of guilty passed against the defendant.

Cllr. Wilson said: "Two days from now, we will be expecting a final judgment to sentence the doer of the crime. We get this news all over the place that we are not prosecuting rape cases and that is not true we are prosecuting rape cases so that we can serve the Liberian people and make our girls or children be free. We are fighting hard to clear our society of criminals and people who violate the rights of others."
