Liberia: No Weah, Brumskine Discussion - CDC Chairman Denies Talk

Monrovia — The opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) has denied media reports that the Party is at the concluding stage of discussions with the opposition Liberty Party (LP) for a possible merger in the upcoming 2017presidential elections. At a news conference Wednesday at the Party's headquarters in Congo Town, the Party Chairman Mr. Nathaniel McGill said, the story published in the June 17 edition of the New Democrat Newspaper was a mere assumption and is far from the reality.

He confirmed ongoing discussions with other political parties and individuals but said it is not the Liberty Party. Mr. McGill however said that the party is not opposed to talk with the Liberty Party. "For now that is far from happening", McGill said. McGill added: "We are not in discussion with the Liberty Party; we are in discussion with other political parties. However, there are suggestions for us to have discussion with Liberty party. The CDC is not opposed to talking to political parties; we are open and will like to listen to the Liberty Party if they have suggestions to collaborate".
