Abuja — Over 40 million Nigerians are said to have sickle cell traits. Also, over 150,000 children are born with sickle cell disease annually and majority of them die before the age of five in Nigeria.
Sickle cell disease is said to affect nearly 100 million people in the world and it is responsible for over 50 per cent of deaths in those with the most severe form of the disease.
