Zimbabwe: "Vendorphobia" - Treating Symptoms

Zimbabwe's government has given illegal vendors until 26 June to vacate Harare's Central Business District and operate from designated areas. Informal traders have interpreted the government action as an attack on the livelihoods of Zimbabwe's multitudes of unemployed. Waza blogger Philani Amadeus Nyoni believes that the government is not dealing with the root of the matter, and is characteristically engaging in a blame game.

Today the Zimbabwean army will be unleashed on the streets of Harare to remove vendors who have been operating in undesignated areas. Should we be treating the symptoms and not attacking the cause? Or are we cancered beyond redemption?
