Namibia: Dundee Precious Supports the MTB Challenge

Cyclists braved the chilly winter weather last week when they gathered at the Dundee Precious Metals Tsumeb golf club to participate in the MTB bike challenge.

The event was sponsored by Dundee Precious Metals Tsumeb. Administration and Stakeholder Affairs at Dundee, Isai Nekundi, applauded the organisers for a well-planned event which Dundee had disbursed about N$80,000 to make it a success.Approximately 150 cyclists from across the country participated in various categories.The cyclists went through challenging routes across two farms in the areas of Tsumeb and Grootfontein.The following results were sent in by the MTB Cycling committee: The overall winners in the 70 km men category: Costa Seibeb took the first place (2:51:27), second place was Xavier Papo (2:57:17) and third place went to Tjipe Murangi (3:01:4).In the women 70km category: Michelle Vorster took first place in (3:02:01), Michelle Doman came second (4:04:57) and Charmiane Shannon came third in (4:10:42).All the winners received prizes according to the challenge categories. This year more categories were introduced to give more recognition to the cyclists according to their age groups.The organisers also introduced the Racing Rhino category to accommodate the heavier men and women for both the full and half marathon.Men weighing over 90kg qualified for this category. Women weighing over 70kg also qualified for the Racing Rhino category.The Hon. Governor of Oshikoto region Henok Kankoshi also witnessed the event. In his opening remarks he told the cyclists that "sport is not only to enjoy ourselves but also to keep up our health".
