Africa: 25th AU Summit - Political Risk and FDI in Africa

The political leaders of the African Union (AU) came together in Johannesburg earlier this month for the AU's 25th Summit. The theme was 'Women's Empowerment and Development towards Africa's Agenda 2063' where the 12 June signing of the Tripartite Free Trade Agreement (TFTA) between three major economic blocs was discussed.

Despite this important development for intra-African trade and investment, the TFTA was overshadowed by the debacle over South Africa not heeding its own court's ruling to detain Sudanese President, Omar al-Bashir, over the International Criminal Court's indictment of war crimes committed in Darfur.
