Liberia: Officials in 'Corrupt Practices With Impunity'

Tom Woewiyu, a former defense spokesman of the National Patriotic Front of Liberia (NPFL), who is expected to face war crimes charges, may have every reason to state some years back that corruption under President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf's government is a "divine curse".

Mr. Woewiyu said corruption under the Johnson Sirleaf government is part of a "divine curse" which has no cure. The former rebel spokesman is not the only person who has criticized President Sirleaf following her much publicized state in 2006 in which she declared: "corruption under my administration will be the major public enemy #one."
