I have always argued that government investment in sports is a social obligation to its people. It is no different from constructing a hospital, both relate to good health.
Yet sports never makes government's list of priorities like defence or infrastructure. And as is typical, it was only mentioned in passing at last month's budget reading. One could argue in a country where malaria kills 500 people per day, it will be a while before government's shuffle of priorities puts sports top of the deck.
