Mozambique: Nyusi Reacts to Dhlakama's Threats

Maputo — It makes no sense for someone who was not elected to threaten to sack provincial governors appointed by someone who was, Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi declared on Monday.

Speaking at a press conference at the end of his working visit to the northern province of Niassa, Nyusi thus replied, for the first time, to the threat made repeatedly by Afonso Dhlakama, leader of the former rebel movement Renamo, that he will expel the provincial governors and district administrators from six central and northern provinces (Manica, Sofala, Tete, Zambezia, Nampula and Niassa).
