Liberia: Dog Tests Negative for Ebola Virus, Sex Contact Eyed

Monrovia — Authorities in Liberia are ruling out the possibility that the latest resurgence of the deadly Ebola outbreak is tied to a dead dog. Multiple sources confirmed to FrontPageAfrica Tuesday that the dog suspected as being the source of the latest transmission which led to the death of a 17-year-old schoolboy has been ruled out as a source of initial infection.

"We are now exploring the possibility that the young lad may have had sexual intercourse with an Ebola survivor. It is something that we are seriously looking into," one source who has reviewed the initial findings told FrontPageAfrica. The dog which was reportedly sick prior to its death was buried in the Nedowein, Margibi County area as speculations heightened that some residents including the 17-year-old had consumed the dog in early May which may have triggered the virus re-emergence in the country. The boy died on June 28.
