Abuja — Labour unions from countries in Africa have said that they will henceforth put more pressure on big companies and businesses operating within the continent to pay their fair and true share of tax to governments of their respective countries of operation.
Rising from the meeting of the African Regional International Trade Union Confederation ITUC-Africa Annual Human and Trade Union Network in Abuja, the unions stated that in the wake of the adoption of the Thabo Mbeki panel report on Illicit Financial Flows from Africa by the African Union (AU), which shows that a conservative figure of $50 billion leaves the continent annually, they will put up sustained pressure on both governments of African countries and businesses to end the ugly trend.
