Gambia: Childfund Signs Grant to Support Five Coastal Communities

ChildFund The Gambia on July 24th signed a grant designed to empower communities as well as help reduce activities that contribute to environmental degradation in five coastal communities in the West Coast Region. The signing ceremony was held at Tanji Community Centre in Kombo South.

The five coastal communities are: Brufut, Gunjur, Sanyang, Tanji and Tujereng. ChildFund The Gambia is implementing a 5-month GCCA Support project to The Gambia for integrated coastal zone management and the mainstreaming of climate change. The aim of the project is to enhance the resilience capacity of the five coastal communities against climate change. One of the project components is to set up a Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) in the five participating communities with the aim of creating alternative livelihood opportunities in the said coastal communities for climate change resilience.
