Africa: President Obama Addresses the AU

The President of the United States, Barrack Obama addressed the African Union on Tuesday (July 28, 2015).

President Obama began his address following a strong appreciation to the leadership, particularly Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn and the Ethiopian people for the wonderful hospitality and also to the African Union for hosting such a historic event. Expressing that he is the first US president to address the AU, which he said is representative of one billion people in the African continent, Obama noted, "I now stand before you not only as the son of America but also as the son of Africa." Reflecting on Africa's contribution to humanity, the President recalled that Africa is the cradle of humanity and that Africa and its people helped shape the America today and the rest of the world, adding that "Africa and its people teach us a powerful lesson,"-the lesson that dignity is for every human being.
