Political influence and lack of skills to determine fair share of revenues from extractives are among the stumbling blocks hindering collection by district councils, a pilot study has revealed.
The study commissioned by the Interfaith Standing Committee on Economic Justice and Integrity of Creation, recommends that there is need for capacity building among local government authorities to compute revenues from extractives service levy based on the 0.3 per cent of gross sales by mining companies.
