Nigeria: 64 Year-Old Nurse in Court Over Abortion

Lagos — The police in Lagos yesterday arraigned a 64 year-old nurse, Taiwo Ogunlana, before an Ebute-Metta Chief Magistrate's Court, over unlawful abortion. She was arraigned alongside 35 year-old nurse, Kafayat Oyekola.

The nurse who works in a medical centre at Dalemo, Sango, Ogun State and Oyekola of Arogundade Street, Aboru, Lagos, were alleged to have on June 6, 2015, carried out an unlawful abortion on one Oluwakemi Awoniyi, 31. The prosecutor, Inspector Adams, opposed their bail application, saying the victim was still in hospital.
