The High Court in Nakuru has awarded retired teachers a sum of Sh42.3 billion as payment arrears.
Now the Teachers Service Commission has to somehow find this large sum, which it had not previously budgeted for. Nor is this the first large sum that the TSC has to find a way to pay: there is also the matter of another court upholding an agreement for substantial salary increases following a lawsuit filed by the Kenya National Teachers Union; and arrears reportedly owed to serving teachers as well.
