Liberia: Pro-Temp Jallah Wants Firm Commitment to Gender Equality

The president Pro-tempore of the Liberian Senate has called for firm commitment to gender equality. According to a release, Senator Armah Zulu Jallah stressed that women have long equal rights with men, but the reality is the government must make firm commitment to foster the objectives of gender equality because it is necessary for sustainable development and it is also good for politics.

He mentioned that women make up close to fifty percent of the country's population and are indeed partners in progress. Senator Jallah made the statement at the launch of the "He-for She" campaign at the Legislature. He said that the goal of the campaign was to consent to end violence against women, foster women economic empowerment and increase relevant women's rights in politics and peace-building.
