Liberia: Ruling Reversed - Former Forestry Offcial Get 10-Year Sentence

Judge Peter Gbeneweleh of Criminal Court "C" at the Temple of Justice has reversed his earlier decision to sentence the former Managing Director of the Forestry Development Authority (FDA) Moses Wogbeh and four other co- defendants to five years instead ordering their imprisonment to 10 years.

The Former FDA boss Wogbeh and the other co-defendants were accused by the state of allegedly issuing 61 Private Use Permits (PUPs) illegally to several logging companies thereby causing the government losses of US$6m in revenue, a claim all they have denied. After standing trial since April 1, 2015, the five defendants were found guilty of economic sabotage and obstruction of government's function as public servants on Tuesday, August 25, 2015.
