Algeria: Over 7,600 Mines Dating From Colonial Era Destroyed in August 2015

Algiers — A total of 7,646 mines dating back to the colonial era have been discovered and destroyed in August 2015, as part of mine clearance operations along the eastern and western borders of the country, reliable sources said Thursday.

In the 2nd Military Region, 1,483 landmines and 4,166 anti-group mines were discovered and destroyed, 1 anti-personnel mine was destroyed in the 3rd military region while 1,937 landmines, 44 anti-group mines and 15 flare mines were discovered and destroyed at the 5th military region, the source added.
