South Africa: Delay in the Implementation of Inclusive Education Policy Leaves Learners Behind

A reply to a parliamentary question submitted by the DA, has shown that no training has been provided to officials to ensure children with barriers to learning are accommodated. This is 10 months after a policy to ensure their inclusion in learning was approved.

Last December, the Policy on Screening, Identification, Assessment and Support (SIAS) was approved. This policy was introduced to ensure all children of school-going age who experience barriers to learning will have access to an inclusive education.
