Nigeria: Ugwuanyi Laments Over N32.2 Billion Inherited Salary Arrears, Gratuities

Against the backdrop of Federal Government's approval of N4.2 billion as bailout funds for Enugu State to liquidate outstanding salary arrears, pensions, subventions to Parastatals, institutions and boards, the state government on Friday disclosed that it inherited a debt burden of N32.27 billion as at June 30 this year.

The amount is outside salary arrears of Local government staff and their pensions, debts owed contractors handling different ongoing projects, especially roads, State Diagnostic Centre, water and rural electrification projects among others. The state is presently in a fix as to how to offset the huge debt inherited from the immediate past administration of Governor Sullivan Chime in view of its promise to maintain a seamless continuity and consolidation.
