Coastal communities in Zanzibar are facing hard choices over whether or not to continue with the lucrative but hugely damaging practice of blast fishing or adopt a new World Bank initiative aimed at starting other forms of marine farming as well as ecotourism.
The project, known as the South West Indian Ocean Fisheries Governance and Shared Growth Programme or SWIOFISH in short, brings in coastal communities on the Indian Ocean as co-managers of their own resources.
