Ethiopia: Attempts to Get Human Trafficking Roots Dried

The Ethiopian government is working hard to eradicate poverty, which is largely the root cause of human trafficking. Yet, much remains to be done to disband the network of illegal traffickers, and prosecute the perpetrators. Though the government feels that efforts are being made to check human trafficking, many problems like lack of punishment of traffickers and low conviction rates seriously impede Ethiopia's ability to effectively combat this problem. Also, some of these criminals have legal licenses which they use as a kind of "license" to prevaricate contracts, payments and transit procedures.

Nevertheless, the law cannot address all of these.
