Nigeria: IDPs in North East Hit 5 Million As N'Assembly Set to Ratify UN Convention On Refugees

Abuja — Contrary to official figures which placed the number of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at 2.1 million, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, has said the figure is as high as five million by the activities of the Boko Haram sect.

Dogara, who disclosed this when he received the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), Ms. Angel Dekonge Antangara, in his office, reiterated the commitment of the lower House to the cause of the IDPs and to rebuilding the North-east.
