Two youths slowly edge their bikes down the ramps of a highway over-pass near Bole Ayat. There are virtually no bike lanes in the country, forcing cyclists to occupy pedestrian spaces, putting themselves and others at risk. Ironically, the highway overpasses dotted throughout the city were meant to reduce the danger associated with adventuresome citizens trying to cross the street with large high-speed metal boxes whizzing by. The smiling youth do not seem much concerned with this, however, and once off the overpass, they will ride the streets with that dare-devil confidence one needs to bike in the city.
