Namibia: Date Set for Treason Trial Sentencing

A TRIAL without equal in Namibian legal history is set to end on 8 December, when the men convicted in the main Caprivi high treason case are scheduled to be sentenced in the Windhoek High Court.

udge Elton Hoff announced the date for the sentencing at the conclusion of the hearing of pre-sentencing arguments before him yesterday. Over the course of two-and-a-half days of court proceedings since Wednesday last week, Judge Hoff has heard the prosecution emphasising the seriousness of the case at hand and the need to achieve deterrence and retribution through the sentences that are to be imposed.
