South Africa: EFF Congratulates 'Miners Shot Down' for Winning the International Emmy for the Best Documentary

press release

The EFF congratulates 'Miners Shot Down' for winning the International Emmy for Best Documentary Film. The documentary is a historical record of the brutal Marikana massacre where the ANC government killed 34 mineworkers in cold blood in full view of the whole world. Through this documentary, directed by Rehad Desai and written by Anita Khanna, the story of the workers has been brilliantly captured, in their own voice as they struggled for a living wage.

We condemn the ANC whose statement about the award refers to the workers as a "cast". This reference means workers are acting out roles in a rather tragic drama film about something that did not happen directly to them.
