Nigeria: 'Women Using IUDs May Have Pelvic Pain'

Buk — Women using Intrauterine Devices (IUDs) have been found to have a slightly increased risk of pelvic pains, a don has said.

The lecturer said women not tested for sexually transmitted diseases and inserted with IUDs, to prevent pregnancy may show the symptoms of Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) and if untreated can cause the problems of getting pregnant, problems during pregnancy and prolonged pelvic pains. There were also some IUDs that were known to have a 5-fold increased risk for pelvic pains, he added saying "women must be tested for sexual diseases before IUD insertion,"
