The wait is over. Pope Francis arrives in Uganda later today for the much-anticipated visit of the leader of the world's 1.2 billion Catholics. Pope Francis becomes the third pope to visit Uganda since 1969 when Pope Paul VI arrived on his maiden visit to Africa. This was followed by Pope Paul II in 1993.
This record, indeed, makes Uganda a blessed country as many people have observed. We owe it to the Uganda martyrs who have given our country a special place in the history of the Christian faith in Africa.
