South Africa: No Word Yet From Top Cops Linked to Phiyega on Intent to Suspend Them

Senior police managers Lieutenant Generals Solomon Makgale and Nobulele Mbekela have not responded to notices of intentions to suspend them, acting national commissioner Khomotso Phahlane told the police committee in Parliament on Friday.

It is broadly understood that a group of top cops, including Mbekela and Makgale, are in the firing line because of statements issued in support of suspended National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega. Makgale was Phiyega's spokesperson, while Mbekela serves as deputy police commissioner.
