Mpigi — A 20-year-old man was arrested at the weekend and detained at Buwama Police Station on suspicion of having carnal knowledge of seven animals, including five cows and two goats.

The suspect, a resident of Bulunda village Mpigi District, was allegedly found in his neighbour's farm at around 4:30pm last Sunday mounting a pregnant cow.

Mr Godfrey Kamya, the farm manager said he reportedly found his cows and goats bleeding when he took drugs to immunise them. When he looked in another corner of the farm, the suspect was on top of one of the cows.

"I caught him trying to mount my cow. His excuse was he was getting milk for his girlfriend," Mr Kamya said.

He said he made an alarm which attracted neighbours who took Mubiru to the police. The residents asked leaders and police to take legal action against those involved in beastiality in the village.

Reaction from Resident

Mr Charles Mukiibi, a resident said: "This is the fourth suspect to be caught using cows for sexual gratification in a space of two weeks."

What police say

According to Mr Joseph Ayiki, the officer in charge of Buwama Police Station, the suspect was arrested for being involved in beastiality.

"Such acts are becoming common in this area and it is reflection of how rotten our society has become," he said.

He said the animals were taken by animal crimes detectives to the Police Station to determine whether they were sexually abused and later, the suspect will be arraigned in court.

About bestiality

Bestiality is considered a serious crime in society. According to Uganda's Penal Code Act, any person who has carnal knowledge with an animal is guilty of an offence and liable to imprisonment for life.
