Somalia: Nisa Says It Foiled Al Shabaab Attack On AU Troops Base in Mogadishu

The National Intelligence and security agency (NISA) of Somalia said it thwarted an imminent Al shabaab attack on African Union troops' base in Somali capital, Mogadishu.

The Director General of NISA Gen Abdirahman Mohamed Turyare revealed that they foiled a planned attack on Halane military base, which house AMISOM - African Union Mission In Somalia.

"It was an impending attack on AU base at Halane, next to Mogadishu's international airport. The attack was averted by NISA and AMISOM forces," said NISA director Gen Abdirahman Mohamed Turyare.

Reports said the Al Qaeda-affiliated Al shabaab militants fired several mortar rounds on Jazeera military base in the southern outskirts of Mogadishu. No casualties reported.
