Algeria: Renewable Energies - Commissioning of Solar Power Plant

Tindouf — The power production station based on solar energy was commissioned in the province of Tindouf (around 2000km southwest of Algiers), said Saturday the local official of the province.

With 9 megawatts generating capacity in its experimental phase, this station, located in the region of Merkala, will strengthen the electricity production capacities in the region, and meet the needs of the local population, said the source.

The entry into service of this power station allowed achieving a qualitative leap in electricity generation to an overall capacity of more than 75 megawatts in Tindouf, and also allowed the province to enter the era of the exploitation of renewable energies.

This station will also contribute to the reduction in the spending of the current diesel-powered station.
