Ethiopia: Engaging the Diaspora in Nation Building

Countries with a large number of Diaspora are increasingly recognizing the importance of their citizens abroad. Specifically, there have been a number of regional and international efforts to bring back the Diaspora to support the nation building process of African countries. Many agree, it is encouraging for governments to note that Africans in the Diaspora can make huge contribution to national economic growth through remittances and knowledge.

The Ethiopian government also gives due attention and recognition to the unexploited potentials and roles that the Diaspora could play in development efforts. These measures are taken to encourage them to be part of the domestic socio-economic activities. These days, because of the effects of globalization and expansion of diplomatic networks, it has become much easier than before to engage the Diaspora in the country's development.
